This Wednesday, Blake hosted a charity event for Baby2Baby, the philanthropy started by Kelly Sawyer Patricof and Norah Weinstein that provides low-income children with basic needs like diapers and clothing. Vogue spoke with Blake during the event, where she explained how she became involved with the organization and much more. You can read the full article bellow, and photos were added to our gallery!

“I was seeing from afar what Baby2Baby was doing, and I heard a This American Life story about a woman who after Hurricane Katrina was displaced,” explains Lively of how she became involved with the organization. “Before, the woman was upper-middle class; she had a Mercedes; she thought that her life was solid. She didn’t have savings, but she was doing all right in her situation, and then Katrina happened and she was displaced and moved to Texas, and she didn’t have any support, and she had a young baby and a toddler, and was suddenly begging. She had to keep the same diaper on her baby. Hearing this woman’s story stuck with me.” That was six or seven years ago, and in searching for a charity that would have a real impact on families in need, Lively came across Baby2Baby and signed on to be an ambassador. She has since lent her name and time to events that it hosts.

This particular Mother’s Day celebration brought moms and kids that Baby2Baby serves in New York to the women’s club for an afternoon with Mickey Mouse, the Disney Princess Tiana, and live music by Little Maestros. There were flowerpot-making stations, a card craft area, lots of snacks, and much, much more. The fun wasn’t just for kids, though. While the children were dancing away, the moms got to partake in a moment of me-time, with blowouts provided by Glamsquad and manicures by Tenoverten.

“All the kids here are living below the poverty line, so to be able to have an event where not only they get to celebrate but the moms also get to have a minute of peace [is really wonderful],” Lively notes. “They’re not given the opportunity that they should be given.”

The actress has two daughters, ages 3 and 1, of her own and is trying to instill in them a sense of gratefulness from an early age. “I always want to make sure they’re present and they’re appreciative,” she says. “In order to be appreciative for what you have, you have to realize that it isn’t a given. We talk about how we’re very lucky—and even though we work hard, we need to be thankful we’re given the opportunity to work hard because a lot of people work hard but aren’t given this opportunity. I don’t know if I’m doing it right, I’m sure I’ll take plenty of missteps, but I think it’s about being aware and being present.”

And with that, Lively’s kids bound in to join the party. As soon as she sees them, the actress jumps up in her bubblegum pink Jenny Packham fit-and-flare dress and festive Lucite earrings to give them bear hugs. “I think that if I weren’t doing what I’m doing for a living, there’s nothing I’d love more than going to kids’ parties and dressing up and making them happy. Maybe I just secretly want to dress up as a Disney Princess. [Actually,] maybe it’s not so secret!”

Videos  •  By  •  Comments Off on (Video) Getting ready for the 2018 Met Gala with Blake Lively

Vogue has released a video during which we get to see Blake getting ready for the Met Gala and spoiler alert – There is a Party Bus! You can watch the video bellow, and screen captures have been added to the gallery.

027.jpg 039.jpg 120.jpg 137.jpg

When Blake Lively wore custom Versace to this year’s Met Gala, the train was of such gargantuan proportions that she had to take a party bus to the ball, stripper pole and neon lights included. Not that she minded; mere minutes before she was fastened into her dress mid-route, a glowing Lively was wrapped in a silk Versace robe—and she’d been dancing with her crew the whole way there.

It’s all in a day’s work for the actress, who received the finishing touches to complete her crowning fashion moment in a sun-drenched suite at the Greenwich Hotel, surrounded by family and friends (and a Vogue film crew). In between bites of cupcakes with sprinkles, Lively shared a few of her favorite Met Gala tips and tricks. First, rent a fabulous party bus, because, as Lively says, “It’s fun with the neon lights and stuff.” Then get a dress. As simple as these two pearls of wisdom may sound, Lively reminds us that the buses can be hard to come by (particularly during prom season!) and her dress was the result of a carefully coordinated effort. And considering it took 600 hours to embroider the bodice alone, what better way to celebrate all of that effort than with a splashy ride with your crew on fashion’s biggest night?

For a behind-the-scenes look at Lively’s getting-ready process, watch the video above.
